Why did John Boyega wear a glove to the 'Star Wars' premiere?

How's this for a bold fashion statement?

At the Star Wars: The Force Awakens' world premiere on Monday night, franchise newcomer John Boyega walked the carpet in a dazzling purple suit ... and a black leather glove?

Doing M.J. proud, Boyega.

The accessory was more than likely an homage to Luke Skywalker, whose right hand was severed by his father, Darth Vader, in The Empire Strikes Back (and later, donned a similar black glove in Return of the Jedi).

Skywalker stylin' on the moon of Endor.

Still, that didn't stop some curious fans on Twitter from reading WAY into the style choice and speculating what it could mean for Boyega's character, Finn, in The Force Awakens.

Guess we'll all find out this weekend when Force Awakens hits theaters (or, you know, when spoilers surface online).

Get a grip, guys! John has the rumor mill handled.
