The Rotary Club of Marco Island Sunrise presented its Unsung Hero Award for the first quarter to Jada Shigley, who was recognized for her service to the Marco Island community and placing "service above self," consistent with Rotary's aspirations.

Shigley works full-time at the Marco Island Marriott but unselfishly gives her time to the American Cancer Society, the Marco Island Area Chamber of Commerce and Golisano Children's Hospital, Rotary members said.

"Jada never says no, always goes above and beyond and never looks for personal recognition," said Debra Shanahan, who nominated Shigley. "She is terrific!"

Rotary members awarded Shigley a plaque commemorating the recognition. In addition, the club will donate $100 to the American Cancer Society as a charity chosen by Shigley and 20 polio vaccines as part of Rotary International's effort to eradicate polio.

The Unsung Hero Award recognizes a member of the Marco Island community who unselfishly help others and who has not generally been recognized for such service. The recipient is not a member of Rotary, but either works, lives or provides their service on Marco Island.
