Summer dining: DaVinci’s classic Italian
Naturally, food remains the focal point at popular restaurant DaVinci’s at Marco Walk plaza, but refreshing cool beverages are just as much on the chefs’ radars.
Over summer, for example, DaVinci’s will continue with daily happy hours, offering $5, $6 and $7 appetizers along with $7, two-topping pizza portions.
A customer favorite that will also continue is the Tagliatelle porcini mushrooms with truffles; taking its place, of course, along with a substantial menu that includes everything from seafood to steaks, and from chicken dishes to salads.
“We are a casual, family restaurant,” said general manager Ivan Zdravkovic, alluding to a down-home touch, “but we also cater for formal wedding parties, for example. We target a wide variety of different customers. People can come in for a simple, traditional pizza margarita with a Peroni beer, all the way through to our 14-ounce veal chop Milanese along with a nice bottle of wine.”
About those coolers: Bartender Ivan Ivanov has perfected his house-infused liquors, at the moment touting his pineapple-infused tequila, mint cucumber vodka, black pepper-infused gin. The suggestion is to try them just on ice, or with soda, when sampling the restaurant’s daily drink specials.
And, with the heat of the moment in mind, Ivanov has also been experimenting with all sorts of Margaritas. Made with fresh juices and fruits, they include pineapple-infused Skinny Margaritas with Serracha salt (all salt is infused in-house as well), and smoky jalapeno Margaritas with chipotle salt rim.
In addition, DaVinci’s offers “summer sangrias” every day, with tempting taste combos such as pineapple/strawberry or lime watermelon. Seating is inside or out in the courtyard, which is one of Marco’s best people-watching spots as well.
On the cover: Beets salad with goat cheese is also one of the summer favorites at DaVinci's.
Next week: Marco Prime, which is owned by the same family as DaVinci’s, the Carvellis.
