Council OKs rental referendum for 2016
The Marco Island City Council on Monday approved putting the issue of a rental ordinance to the voters during the presidential primary next year.
Councilman Ken Honecker came straight out of the gate on Monday night with a motion to amend the much-debated residential rental ordinance.
Councilman Larry Honig spoke in favor of rescinding the ordinance, but focusing on tightening up occupancy issues and amending some issues concerning the noise ordinance which were troubling to him.
That motion was defeated 4-2 with councilman Larry Sacher, Bob Brown, Amadeo Petricca and Honig in opposition, with councilman Joe Batte and Honecker in favor.
Immediately following that vote, Petricca moved to bring the issue to a referendum vote during the 2016 presidential primary in March.
That motion passed 5-1, with Honig objecting in favor of an outright vacating of the ordinance.
