School’s cool as Marco kids head back
Around 1,500 Marco Island students headed back into the classrooms Monday morning, some for the first time, some back to familiar surroundings, and some moving up from elementary to middle school, or from middle school to high school.
At Tommie Barfield Elementary, the scene in front of the Kindergarten classes was a mixture of emotions. In some cases, parents couldn’t hold back the tears while their youngsters took their new environment in their stride, and sometimes it was the other way around.
Either way, the teachers used their soothing powers to calm the emotional waters, and by the time the second bell rang, almost all the Kindergartners were content and already under their teachers’ able spells.
