Arrests follow mailbox explosion
Police have arrested two teenage Marco Island boys following the explosive destruction of a mailbox.
The boys, both 14, are charged with criminal mischief (misdemeanor) and prohibited use of explosives (felony).
The arrest followed a report by a homeowner in the 400 block of Sand Hill Street that someone had used an unknown device to destroy his mailbox on Nov. 21 between 118 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Marco officers found and detained the suspects, and after gathering additional evidence and confessions, arrested the boys.
In other police news, the MIPD are investigating the death of a 79-year-old man Nov. 23 at 6:49 a.m. from a gunshot wound. A firearm was recovered at the scene, and a police release has described the death as an “isolated event” with no danger to the community.
