Gov. Rick Scott will tour the Marco Island Academy facilities on San Marco Road in early March, school officials said.

The day and time will be announced 24 hours before the governor appears, school officials said.

The announcement that the governor will appear at the public charter high school follows a meeting that Academy chair Jane Watt had with Scott last week in Tallahassee.

The academy’s charter is up for renewal by the Collier County School Board on March 8.

Watt said she wanted to share with Scott that the academy is a grass-roots community effort and has extensive local support on Marco.

Watt said she also wanted to tell the governor about struggles and challenges she met when she was starting the charter school. The governor gave Watt a list of contacts within the state educational bureaucracy that may be helpful with charter-school funding.

The visit was arranged by State Rep. Kathleen Passidomo, R-Naples, school officials said.
