Vets toiletry drive deadline extended
The annual collection of toiletries for homeless and needy veterans has been less productive than anticipated, so extra distribution points have been added.
We of the Marco VFW Post ask that folks take another look around the house for un-needed toiletries. Remember, this collection also takes outdoor materials such as plastic rain gear and mosquito repellent, as well as small tarps for ground cover.
There are more needy veterans in our loop as they hear of this program, and we want them to receive what they need at intervals for the next year from our distribution groups. The collection is therefore continued to June 25.
Thank you for your continued participation of this very worthy cause.
All you basically have to do is clear out all those soap and toiletry samples you get from hotels, but never use. Add a few more items of your own, and as far as homeless veterans are concerned, you'll make their day.
Post 6370 has joined the Humana agency in collecting toiletry articles for distribution to these veterans. Partnering stores will make collection boxes available, and they will be well-marked.
Boxes will be emptied regularly by members of the VFW post. The contents will be distributed first by an agency in Collier County, so that local donors are assured that our people will be first on the donation list.
The balance of items will be forwarded to the agency in Fort Myers for their veterans. Any business on Marco that is not listed, but has a good customer traffic count, may also participate in this fine program by contacting VFW Commander Dave Gardner at 289-5862 for a box.
These veterans have gone through very disturbing events in their lives, and need our care and thanks for their service. This is one way of providing this, and we ask your help in doing so.
Distribution points are the Snook Inn (Old Marco), Crazy Flamingo (Town Center), Iberia Bank (Bald Eagle Drive and Elkcam Circle), Sunshine Ace Hardware (San Marco Road), Mutual of Omaha Bank (San Marco Road near Publix) and the Chamber of Commerce offices on Collier Boulevard.
