It’s your move: Chess K-12’s champion players
Students have thus far competed in two Swiss tournaments at the Marco Library. The top three players in each tournament qualified to compete in the Round Robin tournament on May 6. Each of the six will win a trophy.
The six champion players in alphabetical order are Alejandro Castaneda, Lely High School; Michael Curiale, Lely High School; Luca Gurgenidze, home schooled; Herlan Henriquez, Lely High School; Tyler Mastrangelo, Tommie Barfield Elementary and Alex Sousa, Tommie Barfield Elementary.
The students say that trophies are nice but cash is better. So perhaps we can raise funds to award winners in the next same format.
The format will follow this plan: Swiss tournaments open to all K-12 students in Collier County will be May 13 and May 20. In each the top three players will qualify for the Round Robin on May 27.
All the tournaments take place in the Marco Island Library. The club CHESS K-12 meets each Saturday in the library.
