The Marco Cruise Club celebrated its 41st Annual Change of Watch and Commodore’s Ball at Island Country Club.

“The Marco Cruise club has been a tradition for so many years on this lovely island,” said incoming Commodore Carol Bryant, who was officially sworn in with a flag ceremony and the passing of the gavel from outgoing Commodore Lynn Stiles.

Outgoing Bridge P/C Lynn Stiles, Commodore Carol Bryant and R/C Deena Procopio.

Bryant is the third woman sworn in as Commodore for the Cruise Club, following Margie Hirschenberger in 2004-2005 and Joan Kenney in 2014.

“The Cruise Club has always been a friendly, welcoming place for women,” said Stiles. “We welcome members from all different backgrounds, including newcomers and cruising veterans.”

The Change of Watch represents a military tradition in which responsibility, accountability and authority are transferred to the new leader or commander.

The lowering of the Past Commodore’s flag (burgee) and replacing it with the new Commodore’s flag represents this transfer of command.

The Marco Cruise Club also celebrated the arrival of the rest of the incoming bridge: Vice Commodore Deena Procopio and Treasurer P/C Neil Blaauboer.
