Calusa Garden Club holds end-of-season luncheon

Calusa Garden Club of Marco Island held its April meeting and end of the season luncheon at Marco Island Yacht Club. The theme of the luncheon, edible flowers, was carried throughout the event by the confetti of edible flowers and an edible orchid decorating the lunch salad plate.

President Sandy Wallen presided over the business meeting and thanked the members for a great 2017-2018 year. She then highlighted the club’s preparations for the 2018-2019 season, which will include hosting the District 9 meeting of Florida Federation of Garden Clubs in May 2019. The speaker, Garden Club member Dale DeFeo, presented a slide show of edible flowers and displayed pots of flowering plants that can be eaten, such as lavender and marigolds. DeFeo highlighted medicinal uses of flowers in addition to food uses for flowers, and thoroughly entertained the group.
