Marco Island Yacht Club holds 3rd Annual ‘Hats and Horses’

The Marco Island Yacht Club held its 3rd Annual “Hats and Horses” Kentucky Derby Day.  This year’s “Run for the Roses” participants enjoyed Derby Day Mint Juleps and hors d’oeuvres as they handicapped the race and cheered on their favorites during the race.

Everyone wore their best Derby attire and trophies were awarded for: Best Couples’ Kentucky Derby attire, Don Mills and Doreen Hertell; Best Individual’s Kentucky Derby attire, M.A. Harlacker; Most Humorous Kentucky Derby Hat, Geoff Walker; Most Creative Hat, Irina Ammerman and Most Creative Fascinator, Corinne Margulies.

Following the race, everyone enjoyed an Old Kentucky Home dinner buffet topped off with a slice of Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie.

Yacht Club members Sondra Hannafan, Margo Folley and Mary Harris had fun serving as judges for the Best Derby attire contest.
MIYC Chairman Dave Everitt congratulates Corinne Margulies, winner of the Most Creative Fascinator trophy.
Yacht Club member Geoff Walker shows off the Derby Day Trophy he received for the Most Humorous Kentucky Derby hat. His hat featured mint juleps sitting on a rose-covered silver serving tray.
