The 2018 Decorating Committee met recently at the Esplanade to celebrate their annual Christmas in July in preparation for the 2018 decorating contest.

Committee co-chairs, Dave and Jeanne Rice announced the schedule for this year’s event. The contest begins with the preliminary judging from 6:30 until 9 p.m., Dec. 10, 11.  For the house decorating contest, the Island is divided into nine zones and judging teams select the top contenders by visiting every street on the island. For the business contest, the island is divided in half and judged by all exterior decorations.

The top 10 decorated homes are selected from 6:30 until 9 p.m., Dec. 12. The finals are on Dec. 14 with the judges traveling to the top 10 homes via the Trolley, followed by the traditional parade of cars for those wishing an early preview of the top contenders. The judges leave from Centennial Bank’s parking area at 6:30 p.m. for those that with to join in the  parade are invited.

“We expect to judge over 2000 homes and some 200-plus businesses this year,” said Rice, “as the community lights up for Christmas.”
