Not your mom's Gucci: The Net-a-Porter capsule collection looks fresh for summer

Gucci is in the midst of a modern makeover. And it's working.

A model presents a creation of Gucci by Italian designer Alessandro Michele during the Milan Fashion Week.

Under the direction of Alessandro Michele, who officially became creative director a year-and-a-half ago, the brand is moving away from the dominance of the stodgy monogram print that, at one point, felt like it covered everything and was no longer fit even for the ladies who lunch crowd.

In it's latest venture, the brand has partnered with Net-a-Porter for a capsule collection. It's a borderline prerequisite these days because, let's face it, no one is wandering into Gucci storefronts with the same regularity they are falling into black holes of online shopping that start with an innocent check of Instagram.

A video preview of the line was officially shared today, and it's the stuff romantic summer dreams. At least our dreams of summer.

The printed loafer slides, floral sneakers, heart-print suits, pleated long dresses, neckties and berets -- we want it all. And we're guessing we won't be the only ones. Expect to see these pieces again on the likes of model Liu Wen, Dakota Johnson and Charlotte Casiraghi, the granddaughter of Princess Grace of Monaco.

The collection hits May 12, so start picking up those hostessing shifts and baby sitting gigs now, because one thing that hasn't changed about the designer brand is the price tag.
