Swinging between seasons - like most Marco restaurants at this time - Arturo’s has gone light and refreshing for our series on drinks and desserts.

“Every hour at Arturo’s is happy hour too,” says Barney, who earlier this year celebrated 20 years at the restaurant’s helm.

For desserts, executive chef Jonas Arano weighed in with a creamy key lime pie, homemade and containing a few “secret” ingredients; a beautiful brown peanut butter pie (also homemade and with some ingredients that remain in-house secrets), and an Italian lemon ice in a tall parlor cup that should easily counter any increasing humidity in the hot weather on the horizon.

The restaurant, with Italian specialties that have made it a true Marco dining icon over the years, will roll out summer specials from May 1, and will this week switch to 6 days a week (Tuesday to Sunday) from 5 p.m. until close, Barney says. Also, starting on Mother’s Day May 8, Arturo’s will offer 20 percent off take-out items.

“I’m excited about the upcoming summer,” says Barney. “I have a great staff.”

Some of the dinner dishes you might want to consider along with drinks and desserts include sea bass Mediterranean; the "world-famous" stuffed pork chop; Chicken Abbondanza, Chicken Farcito and the colorful and tasty cold antipasta.

The bass (an occasional special) is sautéed and drizzled with lemon butter sauce, and served with a jumbo shrimp and cherry tomatoes over a bed of spinach, and was highlighted in a Sun Times article earlier this year.
