Michael J. Fox gets first tattoo at 57, a 'significant' sea turtle
Michael J. Fox is looking pretty McFly.
The multi-Emmy Award-winning actor debuted his first tattoo on Instagram Wednesday, a sea turtle swimming through ovals. Fox turned 57 last June.
"First tattoo, sea turtle, long story," Fox wrote of the black ink on his upper forearm.
New York's Bang Bang tattoo shop also shared images from the momentous occasion, as did the artist, Mr. K.
"Represents his life and himself," Mr. K wrote on his Instagram post. "Can’t decide how I feel today @realmikejfox it was an honor"
Shop owner Keith "Bang Bang" McCurdy elaborated on the meaning of Fox's tattoo to Inked Magazine.
"He was telling me that there was a transformation for him with his career decisions when he was swimming in Saint John," McCurdy said. "He spotted this turtle with a chunk missing from it's fin and a scar on his face. And that turtle let him swim with him for about a half an hour.
"He made a transcending decision right after that," he continued. "So that turtle was pretty significant to him."
McCurdy added that the ink novice "did really well" while getting tattooed, and his presence made waves at the shop.
"Everybody is such a big fan of Michael J. Fox, all of the tattoo artists and employees gathered around to see this thing finished up," said McCurdy. "He signed a bunch of stuff, we took photos and he was great to us. He was really awesome and let us be fans for a moment."
