How Meghan Markle leaves 'Suits': A new job and a (non-royal) wedding

Spoiler alert! The following contains details from Wednesday's Season 7 finale of Suits, "Goodbye."

Rachel Zane finally got her happily ever after, and Meghan Markle is next.

After seven seasons on USA's legal drama Suits, Markle is departing the series, which may have something to do with the fact that she's marrying Britain's Prince Harry next in a few weeks. The network aired the two-hour Season 7 finale — her final two episodes — on Wednesday, when Markle, and her also-departing co-star Patrick J. Adams, who plays Mike Ross, said goodbye to the firm and the fans.

And though it didn't have a royal wedding, it was a lovely departure for two characters who were so integral to the show's success. (USA plans to continue it without them).

As usual, the season finale finds the firm in crisis, as a lawsuit from former partners threatened their very existence. But Rachel and Mike were far more concerned with a class-action suit at the legal clinic, representing parents of children affected by lead poisoning from a battery factory. Mike is approached by a man with a proposal that seems too good to be true: Job offers for both Mike and Rachel to run a Seattle firm specializing in class-action lawsuits.

Mike initially thinks the offer is part of a ploy by the energy company to win the lead lawsuit, but Rachel eventually discovers that it's legit, and the opportunity of a lifetime.

The pair decides, since they're young and childless, to upend their lives and take the job offers. So they move up the wedding, with some help from Donna (Sarah Rafferty), of course. The couple marries in a beautiful, twinkle-lit ceremony, scored to John Legend's All of Me (wonder if the royal wedding planner was taking notes) and Mike finally breaks the news to Harvey (Gabriel Macht) that he's heading out west. The men say their goodbyes, and Rachel and Mike dance to their new future.

We'll have to wait until May 19 to see how the royal wedding stacks up to this one.
