'It's a golf cart for people who don't golf.'
On Alex Maz’s frequent visits to Southwest Florida from Toronto, he noticed many people using golf carts for purposes other than playing golf.
In gated communities, he saw individuals and couples travel in them to get to the clubhouse for dinner or to visit friends in the neighborhood.
But on very hot days or rainy days, he wondered why there wasn’t a better vehicle for these trips, so the passengers were more comfortable.
Now there is.
Maz has developed MyCar EV, an upscale electric golf cart with air conditioning, heat, doors that lock and many other features.
“It’s a golf cart for people who don’t golf,” Maz said. “I see it as a community vehicle.”
The four-seat, two-door MyCar’s standard features include power windows, door locks, key fob entry, side and rearview mirrors, seat belts, headlights, turn signals, radio, trunk release and a sunroof.
Upgrade features include touch screen audio, backup camera, USB charging port and car video recorder.
The vehicle comes with a two-year comprehensive bumper-to-bumper warranty and one-year warranty on the batteries. Maz says it can run for 90 miles before needing to be recharged.
MyCar is available in Rebellious Red, Racing Yellow, Blueberry, Grape Jelly, Tungsten and Bright White.
In addition to consumer use, Maz thinks MyCar is a great solution as a security vehicle or for property managers who often use standard golf carts that don’t offer protection from the weather.
He will be creating this version as a two-seater with extra trunk space. He also plans to offer a low-speed vehicle option that will go up to 25 mph and be street legal.
Maz designed the vehicle and had four models manufactured in China.
He lives in Fort Myers and unveiled MyCar locally.
After driving his dream car, he plans to make a few tweaks before taking orders that he hopes to have delivered this fall. Test drives are available by requesting them at mycarev.com.
He is looking for golf cart dealers to distribute the vehicle in Florida. MyCar will retail for approximately $12,000. Maz estimates that it will cost about $50 a year in electricity to charge using a standard 110v outlet.
He and his silent partners have invested “close to six figures” to make MyCar a reality. Maz has exclusive rights to sell the vehicle in the United States. He hopes to sell 100 to 200 in the first year.
