Rotary honors 3 more with Spirit awards
The Noontime Rotary Club of Marco Island presented additional 2015 Spirit of Marco Island Awards to Cindy Love and George Abounader and also recognized Condee Cooling & Electric in its community business category.
The three recent recipients along with previously announced winners Carole Roberts and Neil and Rebecca Snyder will be formally recognized at a gala awards dinner and silent auction on Saturday, April 25, at Bistro Soleil Restaurant.
Love and Abounader were caught by surprise at a recent Noontime Rotary luncheon when Bruce Graev, club president, made the announcement and presentation in front of their fellow club members and guests.
Rotary recognized both with the Spirit of Marco Island Award for their many years of work to improve the lives of the youth in the greater Marco Island community as advocates and mentors, Rotary officials said.
• Love is the CEO of the YMCA, where she has been employed for the past 20 years. She also is an active member of Noontime Rotary, a past president and 2008 recipient of Rotarian of the Year award. In her 20 years at the YMCA, she has been instrumental in increasing funding for programs that support underprivileged children. The Y helps more than 1,000 children through its summer literacy and math summer camps, YREADS, Early Childhood Learning, after-school programming and wellness and social services. In 2012, she received the Educational Commissioner's Award from the Florida Department of Education.
• Abounader is CEO/principal of the Marco Island Charter Middle School. He, too, is a past president of Noontime Rotary and in 2013 was named Marco Island Citizen of the Year. In 1992, he received the Edmund Rice Distinguished Educator award.

• Condee Cooling & Electric was advised of their selection when a group of Noontime Rotarians led by club president Bruce Graev dropped in to their office to make the surprise presentation. Erik Condee who is the company's Operational Coordinator accepted the award on behalf of the company to the delight of his fellow employees who were in attendance.
Condee Cooling and Electric, in business 46 years, was chosen for a 2015 Spirit of Marco Island award for the firm's many years of community service supporting civic organizations on the island.
Over the years, the company has donated thousands of hours of service and products to numerous organizations. Each year, the company donates labor for the Christmas Island Style tree-lighting, and is a corporate sponsor of the annual Marco Island Seafood & Music Festival, at which they also donate services. When the Charter Middle School was first established, Condee Cooling & Electric donated services and products. In addition, Condee supported the Marco Island Art League and the Vietnam Traveling Wall Memorial.
Erik Condee, a member of the Sunrise Rotary Club, is also very much involved in the community by donating his time to the Meals of Hope program and the seafood festival.
