Thanks by way of square meals

Marco Islander Bill Filbin reports another successful food drive for Thanksgiving, courtesy of the generosity of fellow islanders.

“We’d like to thank islanders, vacationers, and Realtors for stepping up again this year for a successful food drive of 72 large trays of side dishes and 27 pies,” Filbin said. “Without their help many people at St Mathew’s homeless shelter would have gone without.”

Each year on Thanksgiving Day, Filbin loads up volunteer vehicles and drives the trays of food through to the Naples charity.

Shopping alternative

A vast array of artisans will sell their wares at Art-in-the-Glades on Saturday, Dec. 12, under the pavilion in McLeod Park (near Everglades City’s City Hall building) from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

They will offer everything from jewelry to soaps to decorated buoys, so have a fun day out and support local crafters in this laid-back little town. When you get hungry at lunchtime, hotdogs, burgers and drinks will be on sale, as well as baked goods from local charities. And, bring the kiddies who can play on the swings while you shop.

For information, call Marya at 695-2905 or see www.evergladeshistorical.org.
