Despite the wind and the cold, hundreds of area children, families and friends -- more than 600 visitors logged in -- took part in Pirates Day on the grounds of the Collier County Historical Museum in cooperation with the Marco Island Historical Society.

The free event featured arts and crafts projects, story time, a scavenger hunt and plenty of prizes —all designed to give young people a taste of what it was like in the 1600s when marauding pirates plagued Southwest Florida.

Fun was definitely the name of the game.

Perhaps two-year-old Julianna Archer said it best, “I really love this.”
