1. Police Chief Frazzano has a start week
Marco Island new Police Chief Tracy Frazzano cleared all her tests and is ready to start on her new role, according to City Manager Mike McNees.
“Chief Frazzano has cleared everything,” McNees said. “We expect her to be here the last week of August.”
Frazzano, who was the first woman to become detective, sergeant, lieutenant, captain and deputy chief in Montclair, New Jersey, beat out 80 other candidates after the city officially listed the position more than three months ago.
She will be the first woman to lead the Marco Island Police Department.
2. Trump to focus on Medicare during Central Florida visit
President Donald Trump plans to focus on Medicare when he visits a Central Florida retirement community next week.
The White House says Trump will visit The Villageson Aug. 6 to discuss administration
progress on “securing and improving” the national health insurance program for people aged 65 and over. The Republican president’s visit comes as candidates for the 2020 Democratic nomination debate each other over “Medicare for All” expansion.
3. Beach cleanup is Sunday
The Beach and Coastal Resources Advisory Committee for the City of Marco Island will conduct a beach cleanup from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 4.
The team will only pick up "non-organic" material like straws, cigarette butts, plastic and paper.
MICA provides gloves, bags and water. The Marco Chamber provides "trash grabbers" and buckets.
