Naples woman hospitalized after hit by drunken driver, troopers say
A Collier County driver was hospitalized after her car was hit by a suspected drunken driver Friday afternoon, Florida Highway Patrol reports.
According to troopers, Thomas W. Bastys, 53, of Hobe Sound, was headed south on Everglades Boulevard North, north of 8th Avenue Northeast in his 2007 Dodge Caravan about 12:05 p.m.
He ran onto a grassy shoulder, turned west and entered the northbound lane when he hit Connie J. Stuker, 67, of Naples, head-on as she drove north in her 2009 Ford Escape. She then came to a stop when she hit a tree, troopers reported.
They arrested and charged Bastys with drunken driving and drunken driving causing injury. He was taken to Collier County Jail.
Stuker was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers in serious condition.
