COVID-19 in Collier County: State reports 63 new cases, two additional deaths

The Florida Department of Health reported 63 new cases of COVID-19 and two additional deaths in Collier County on Friday.

Collier County's cumulative total of COVID-19 fatalities is 251, 17th highest among Florida counties.

Friday's cases increased the county's overall total to 13,927, 10th highest among Florida counties. The seven-day average for cases was 62 through Thursday, the highest since Sept. 1.

While Collier County is 10th among Florida counties in COVID-19 cases, it is only 21st in total tests with 88,759. Every other county in the top 10 in cases is among the top nine in total tests. Collier's seven-day average for reported COVID-19 tests was 780 through Thursday, 61 more per day than the seven-day average on Sept. 1 (719) but 47% fewer than the county's peak average on July 17 (1,474). 

Collier's overall positivity rate dropped to 15.69% Friday and has not been below 15% since July 15.  Collier's seven-day average positivity rate increased to 8.24% through Thursday.

A total of 973 people in Collier County have been hospitalized for COVID-19 as of Friday, according to the report, but that number does not reflect the people currently in the hospital, according to the Florida Department of Health. 

As of approximately 11 a.m. Friday, there were 24 COVID-19 patients in Collier County hospitals, according to data from Florida's Agency for Healthcare Administration. That's the same number of patients that were reported at approximately the same time Thursday. The county also had 18.6% of its total hospital beds available and 29.4% of its adult ICU beds available, according to the AHCA. Florida's available percentages were 24.1% (hospital beds) and 23% (ICU beds), respectively.

The Florida Department of Health is not reporting how many people have recovered from COVID-19.
