Collier: Caxambas Park reopened Friday, repairs completed early
Caxambas Boating Park is open again and repairs are complete after "substantial additional resources" were provided by contractors on the project, Collier County announced in a news release Friday afternoon.
Repairs were completed earlier than the county originally estimated, the release states.
The park, located at 909 Collier Court, saw damage to its docks in November from Tropical Storm Eta.
On Tuesday, Collier County closed the park's docks and boat ramp for repairs. The county initially said the park would be closed until possibly Jan. 1.
Local tour companies were only told of the closure by the county a day in advance and many complained about the timing during one of the busiest times of the year for their businesses, a county official said.
Collier Commissioner Rick LoCastro said he met with county staff and the contractor this week after learning from people in the community that the park had been closed.
"The reality is we've got to remember we've got business owners out there," LoCastro said.
LoCastro said he wants the county to be more "customer service-minded."
"You've got to have business sense. They've been hit so hard by COVID. Every day they have business is like a month," he said.
LoCastro said the "substantial additional resources" from the contractor were extra workers brought on to get the job done.
"They brought out a crew immediately," LoCastro said.
He said he went out to the docks Friday afternoon to see the completed work. He credited community members who reached out to him about the park's closing.
LoCastro plans to be at the park over the weekend to "make sure everything's working," he said.
"The docks look great. Perfectly done and a high quality of all brand new materials," he said.
