Pedestrian killed near Marco Island had exited his vehicle near intersection
A 62-year old Naples man was killed Tuesday after he left his truck and was struck by an SUV just north of Marco Island, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The incident took place just after 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Collier and Capri boulevards.
The victim exited his pickup in the northbound left-turn lane on Collier Boulevard.
Meanwhile, the driver of the SUV, a 58-year old Naples woman, traveling south on Collier Boulevard entered the intersection in the left turn lane before steering right into the southbound inside lane.
The SUV lost control and struck the raised center median as well as the victim, the report states.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the SUV was transported to Physicians Regional Hospital with minor injuries.
The FHP Homicide Unit continues to investigate with charges pending for the driver of the SUV.
Troopers do not release the names of those involved in crashes, citing Marsy's Law.
