Fatal crash on U.S. 41 in Collier County closes road; second crash closes Immokalee Road

A fatal crash involving a tractor-trailer rig Thursday morning closed a portion of U.S. 41 in south Collier County.

The Florida Highway Patrol and Collier County Sheriff's Office were investigating  the crash, on 41 at Burns Road in Ochopee. 

An FHP report said a sedan was eastbound on 41 and the rig was traveling west, also on 41.

The sedan crossed the centerline and crashed headfirst with the truck.

The sedan's driver, who has not yet been positively identified, died at the scene. The rig's 45-year-old male driver from Miami was unhurt.

The crash, which happened shortly befo3 a.m., caused a complete block on 41 from Florida 29 to the county line.

Everglades/Oil Well

A second road closure was reported at Immokalee Road from Everglades Boulevard to Oil Well Road. This crash happened at 6:30 a.m. and could shut down Immokalee Road for a few hours.

The Sheriff's Office urged motorists to use alternate routes.
