The Florida Department of Health reported 54 new COVID-19 cases in Collier County Thursday, bringing the county's total to 1,058. There was also one additional Collier death reported Thursday: a 90-year-old woman who has contact with a confirmed case. Her case was counted by the state on May 4. Forty-one Collier residents have now died from COVID-19.

On Monday, Collier became the ninth Florida county to surpass 1,000 COVID-19 cases. Since May 1, 532 new cases have been confirmed in Collier County.

That increase in cases coincides with a surge in reported tests. Since May 1, 5,684 tests have been reported in Collier resulting in those 532 positive cases (9.4%). That has resulted in Collier's overall positive case percentage dropping from 10.7% on May 1 to 9.75% Thursday.

The department confirmed Collier County's first three cases of the novel coronavirus Wednesday, March 11. Since then, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Collier has increased to 1,112.

A total of 166 people in Collier County have been hospitalized for COVID-19, according to the report, but that number does not reflect the people currently in the hospital, as some have been released.
