Deputies on Monday arrested a Palmetto Ridge High School student who they said took a knife to school and had a backpack full of disturbing items, including a drawing that depicted students with bullet holes to the chest and head.

Benjamin Mendoza, 18, of Golden Gate Estates, faces charges of possession of a weapon on school grounds and disruption of a school function, according to a Collier County Sheriff's Office release.

According to the release, the Sheriff's Office received a tip Friday from someone who said Mendoza brought a gas mask to school Thursday.

Mendoza had also previously made "disturbing comments" about the Oct. 1 shooting at the Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas, the tipster reportedly told authorities.

In Mendoza's backpack, detectives found a "realistic looking" Los Angeles Police Department badge, a map of the school and a list of student names. On the list of student names was also a drawing of a student with bullet holes in the chest and head and the words "dead ha ha dead" written on the back of the paper.

Detectives also found a small notebook containing stories and drawings "depicting students as victims and suspects in murders and other crimes," the release states.
