An Orlando man is accused of shooting a man during what deputies described as a fight over drug money at a home in Golden Gate Estates, according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.
Javier Luis Rodriguez, 23, turned himself in to the Sheriff’s Office at the Naples Jail Center on Sunday. He is accused of shooting Christopher Kapish, 33, in the chest at his home, according to an arrest report from CCSO.
Rodriguez was charged with aggravated battery on a person using a deadly weapon.
The incident occurred Jan. 14 in the 500 block of 18th Avenue N.W. Kapish was taken to NCH North Naples Hospital with a gunshot wound afterward, according to the report.
Kapish told police he was awakened by his roommate, who told him an acquaintance named Javy was at the door looking for him, according to the report.
Kapish invited him to the rear lanai and the two discussed money owed over “narcotics,” according to the report.
The visitor was knocked to a knee and then pulled out a firearm and shot Kapish from short range, according to the report.
The man fled on foot from the scene, jumped a fence and then ran to a white SUV that was waiting for him, according to the report.
Police identified Javy as Rodriguez based on a description from Kapish, according to CCSO.
When police arrived on the scene of the incident blood was found on the front door, inside the residence and on the lanai, according to the report.
