An Orlando man accused of assaulting a person with cerebral palsy on Marco Island last year pleaded no contest Friday morning in open court.
Terrel Olson, 32, was sentenced to two years of community control, followed by two years of probation, and ordered to pay $15,552 in restitution to the victim, of which $10,000 was due immediately. He also must pay $867 in court fees and prosecution costs.
Adjudication of the felony battery charge was withheld.
Marco police received the battery complaint in the early hours of June 9, 2018, after an attack on the victim was reported.
The victim reported being kicked from behind, causing him to fall forward and strike his head and mouth on a table.
Police observed a laceration on the back of his head and lip.
Witnesses told police the attack was unprovoked. After locating Olson, another witness was taken to the scene and positively identified him as the assailant.
Olson was initially booked on the charge of aggravated abuse of an elderly, disabled adult.
