CCSO: At least one dead in North Naples Park neighborhood; death investigation underway
Deputies remained in a North Naples neighborhood mid-morning Tuesday after at least one person died and callers reported a shooting.
This is the second shooting death of 2021 in Collier County.
Deputies responded to a call about a shooting in Naples Park around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday.
The Collier County Sheriff's Office confirmed that at least one person died in the 700 block of 99th Avenue North, 1 mile from Vanderbilt Beach. The sheriff's public information officer says the death is an isolated incident and investigators are confident there is no danger to the public.
Witness heard a helicopter hovering over the area last night, but investigators said it was air support for the deputies on scene. No suspect is at large and all parties involved in the incident are known to deputies, according to the information officer.
Investigators found a silver Kia with its back window shattered at the scene. Several areas have been taped off on 99th Avenue North, as investigators collect evidence from the street.
Collier County has had one other shooting death this year, records indicate.
The first shooting death was on March 12, when Jason Ortiz walked into Rusty's Bar & Grill in North Naples and shot a person sitting at the bar, and wounded another. Ortiz was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, he has pleaded not guilty and his case is awaiting trial.
This story will be updated as law enforcement releases information.
