Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis plans to be in Bonita Springs on Thursday to make a water policy announcement.

The announcement is set for 8:30 a.m. at Florida Gulf Coast University's Vester Marine and Environmental Science Research Field Station. A governor's office news release about the news conference did not provide any details about what DeSantis will discuss.

The possibility of the governor making an announcement was briefly brought up Tuesday during an FGCU board meeting. The university was still awaiting confirmation from DeSantis' office about whether a news conference would be held.

"We are working with him on a major water initiative," FGCU President Mike Martin said. "We will continue to push that agenda seriously as we continue to try to serve the region."
