1. ‘Windows & Doors’ open Saturday

The Marco Island Historical Society presents the public opening for a dramatic one-of-a-kind permanent outdoor gallery — Windows & Doors to History — at the Marco Island Historical Museum.

The Windows & Doors to History gallery opens to the public Saturday with an event from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. There is no admission charge.

Windows & Doors to History extends Marco Island Historical Museum exhibitions to the outside of the Museum with 20 faux windows, three faux doors, and a three-panel column that depict vivid scenes from Marco Island’s rich history.

Works of art on the outside walls of the museum complex will depict and bring to life eras from 10,000 years of Marco Island history from the Pleistocene, Archaic, Glades and Calusa periods to the pioneer period and modern Marco.

The Marco Island Historical Museum is located at 180 S. Heathwood Drive. The Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free and the site is handicapped accessible.


2. Nominations requested for ‘Artist of the Year’

The Marco Island Foundation for the Arts (MIFA) has recognized an ‘Artist of the Year’ each spring since 2014.

The non-profit organization is requesting nominations from the public. This special honor recognizes the art or activity of a person or group who has made an outstanding contribution to the cultural life of the community.

The ‘Artist of the Year’ can be an individual, group or organization that is from Marco Island, the Isle of Capri or Goodland.

Nominations must be in writing and submitted to MIFA, P.O. Box 1091, Marco Island, Fla., 34145 no later than March 31. Submissions must include the name and contact information of the person submitting the nomination. Be sure to include adequate support information about the person or group being nominated including achievements, previous awards, and contact information.

The ‘2017 Artist of the Year” will be announced in May.

3. Foodie Friday returns to Naples Outlet Center

The Naples Outlet Center is celebrating President’s Day weekend Friday, Feb. 17 with a delicious experience for all shoppers and guests.

Two of Naples’ most popular gourmet food trucks, will be serving from 4-8 p.m. at Naples Outlet Center, located directly on Collier Boulevard (Route 951) in East Naples, 6 miles north of Marco Island.

Chef Z and the Sizzle Truck has set the table for quality food, great service and gourmet menu. Little Pete’s is an Italian food truck experience not to be missed and has been called a little bite of Brooklyn, on the go. The East Naples Kiwanis Club will be on hand to sell beer and wine with proceeds to support their ongoing community programs.
