The Goodland Arts Alliance, along with Collier County Parks and Recreation, is sponsoring its 5th Annual Outdoor Harbor Arts & Music Festival at MarGood Harbor Park in Goodland from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, March 11 and 12, to support the GAA mission to preserve, promote, and advance the cultural presence in the historic fishing village of Goodland through art, history, and education.

Painters, sculptors, jewelers, photographers and craft-persons will be joined this year by a “Culinary Corner” that features handcrafted foods and food related art. Musicians appearing live from the MarGood stage include JRobert Houghtaling, Merrill and Jim Allen, Raiford Starke, Tom Porter, Michael Oakland, and Ben Olson, and will end each day with an all-band jamboree.

The event also features a raffle package that includes a Thunderbird Sailing Charter plus a Backwater Adventure trip; dining at Little Bar Restaurant, Old Marco Lodge, Stan’s Idle Hour, Marker 8.5, and a certificate from Kirk’s Fish Company. There’s also a fine pampering from Rick’s Island Salon and Day Spa; a handmade GAA pendant, and a rental from Beach Bum Equipment.

The venue, MarGood Harbor Park, has a historic and environmental significance, the property was purchased by Collier County with Florida Forever funds in 2005. Today, native landscaping and lovely walkways wrap around a charming harbor-front. The park also features a museum/exhibition hall, 2 open-air pavilions, a canoe/kayak launch and a set of historic fishing cottages.

Proceeds from this event will go towards fulfilling the GAA’s long-range goal to establish a permanent home in the four cottages existing within the MarGood Park boundaries. In January 2015, through a petition filed by the GAA, the Board of Collier County Commissioners designated these buildings, some dating back to the 1920’s, as Historic Structures. This monumental decree paves the way for the organization to lease the cottages from the County, restore them, and repurpose them for the benefit of the community and visitors alike.
