Five teams competed in the sixth annual Marco Island Police Foundation Rib Cook-Off at the Marco Island Brewery on Saturday; the light drizzle did not deter community supporters or competitors.

“Everyone looks forward to this event,” Dick Adams, Marco Island Police Foundation president, said in a previous interview. “Not only will we have some of the best lip-smacking ribs in Southwest Florida, but folks will be helping support the great work of the foundation.”

“The police officers on Marco Island are directly responsible for keeping safe and secure,” Bill Young, the foundation's vice president, added.  “The Rib Cook-Off is a great way to support them while having some fun, too.”

The event, which ran from noon to 6 p.m., included raffles, food, fun and live music provided by Rosetta Stone. A panel of judges tasted all of the entries at 5 p.m.

An eager crowd of 200 or so packed into the Marco Island Brewery at 5:30 p.m. for the announcement of raffle winners and the Rib Cook-Off winner; the judges unanimously chose Mike Dechaine as winner of the sixth annual Rib Cook-Off.

Tickets cost $25 for a full, served meal with all proceeds benefiting the Marco Police Foundation Scholarship Fund.
