An armed man barricaded himself in a Marco Island home, forcing neighbors to flee as law enforcement descended on the area, according to the Collier County Sheriff's Office.

Peter D. Tremont, 61, was arrested at his home on 1661 N. Copeland Drive on Sunday afternoon.  

At 3:19 p.m., the Marco Island Police Department was notified of an incident at the address.

“Officers found a male who threatened to kill the officers and refused to exit the residence peacefully,” according to an MIPD press release. “MIPD officers secured the scene, summoned additional resources and began evacuating nearby homes.”

Tremont was arrested without incident and taken to the Naples Jail Center. Authorities said he has been charged with aggravated assault and that other charges may be forthcoming. A night vision device and 17 loaded firearms (pistols and rifles) were recovered at the scene. 

Neighbors have been given the all clear to return to their homes. No injuries were reported. 

Members of the Collier County Sheriff’s Office District Five patrol staff, SWAT Team, bomb and negotiation units, Naples Police Department SWAT personnel, Marco Island Fire Rescue and Collier County EMS all responded.
