Mourning the loss of Greek Gourmet? Well I’m here to turn that frown upside down. My latest dining adventure was Greek, gourmet and just down the road.

Olympia Restaurant and Bar, aka Olympia Dining, is just around the corner on Davis Boulevard, near GG’s Airport Pulling address.

Things got off to an appetizing start with the Dolmadaki, stuffed grape leaves filled with seasoned rice, served with tzatziki sauce and grilled pita bread. For the uninitiated, tzatziki is a mixture of yogurt, cucumbers and garlic and is served with a wide variety of Greek dishes.

The Dolmadaki was amazing. The pita was served warm and the serving was generous.

For his entrée, my partner in dine had the gyro platter – a great alternative if you prefer eating with a fork instead of your hands. The dish features thinned-sliced lamb, served with sautéed onions and peppers over rice pilaf; and accompanied by tzatziki and pita bread.

My guest was pleasantly surprised with the lamb; which surprised me. Why? Cause why order something if you are expecting to be disappointed? I guess the old saying “hope springs eternal” exists for a reason. And his hope was rewarded.

I ordered the grilled veggie dinner, featuring sautéed onions and peppers, artichokes, mushrooms and eggplant over rice pilaf with feta cheese and Olympia sauce. What is Olympia sauce, you ask? Imagine tzatziki and mayonnaise got together and had a child. Greek gods be praised. I wanted a bottle to take home.

To top off the meal, baklava cheesecake. Now hold on there just one darn minute. I have nothing bad to say about Olympia so far. Grade: A-plus. But I must admit that I’m a fan of the Cheesecake Factory; and when they have Oreo cheesecake, for example, you get the perfect blend or Oreo and cheesecake.

With that in mind – and only with that in mind – I was disappointed with the baklava cheesecake. Still, it did not go uneaten. So, there’s that.
