Elections 2020: Everything you need to know about Collier County races, general election

The general election is next month so to help voters make their decisions, the Naples Daily News has put together this election guide.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Nov. 3 election including local and state races and voting information.

HOW AND WHEN TO VOTE

► The deadline to request your vote-by-mail ballot is 5 p.m. on Oct. 24, according to the Collier County Supervisor of Elections. Registered voters can request a ballot at www.colliervotes.com/requestballot.

► Early voting for the general election will be Oct. 19 through Oct. 31 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For early voting locations, click here

► On Election Day, the polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Nov. 3.

LOCAL AND STATE RACES

Collier County commission

District 1

John Jenkins and Rick LoCastro are facing off to represent District 1, which covers East Naples, Marco Island, and communities from the Isles of Capri to Copeland. Read story »

District 5

Commissioner Bill McDaniel will face David Turrubiartez Jr. and Raymond Christopher in the District 5 race. District 5 stretches from Everglades City to Golden Gate Estates, Immokalee and Ave Maria. Read story »

Marco Island City Council

Marco Island residents will vote to fill four City Council seats. A candidate for a fifth seat is running unopposed and will be automatically elected. The election could mean that at least three, possibly four, newcomers become part of the seven-member council. Read story »

Collier Mosquito Control District

Three candidates are vying for two seats in the Collier Mosquito Control District race. It provides service to about 330,000 residents in 401 square miles of the county, including Naples, Golden Gate, Marco Island, parts of Immokalee and a contract with Ave Maria. Read about the candidates »

Greater Naples Fire Rescue District

Two incumbent candidates running to keep their seats on the Greater Naples Fire Rescue District will face off against candidates backed by the local firefighters and paramedics union in the Nov. 3 election. Read about the candidates »

Community Development Districts

Bonita Springs mayor 

Mayor Peter Simmons is not running for reelection, and the city will have a new public face. Omer Dror and Rick Steinmeyer are vying to be the public face of Bonita Springs as mayor. Read story »

U.S. House District 19

Republican Byron Donalds will face Democrat Cindy Banyai in the US District 19 Congressional race. Francis Rooney, who currently holds the seat, decided not to run for re-election.

U.S. House District 106

They're originally from New Jersey towns a half-hour apart, but that's pretty much where the similarities appear to end for state House District 106 candidates Bob Rommel and Sara McFadden. Read story »

Florida District 80

Democrat Laura Novosad is facing Naples businesswoman Lauren Melo in the state House District 80 race to represent eastern Collier and Hendry County. The seat is being vacated by Byron Donalds, a Republican who is running for Congress. Read story »

Florida House District 105

Two millennial candidates are facing off in the November election to take a Florida House District seat that encompasses three South Florida counties with a near split of voter affiliations. Democrat Maureen Porras and Republican David Borrero are vying for the open seat vacated by Ana Maria Rodriguez, who opted to enter a Senate race. Read story »

Florida 2nd District Court of Appeal

Four of the 16 judges who comprise the Florida 2nd District Court of Appeal are up for a merit retention election. The 2nd District judges — J. Andrew "Drew" Atkinson, Morris Silberman, Daniel H. Sleet and Andrea Teves Smith — preside over cases from 14 counties, including Lee, Collier and Charlotte, and five judicial districts, including the 20th, that make up the 2nd District region. REFERENDUM

Conservation Collier

For the first time in more than a decade, Collier County voters will be asked whether they support bringing back a special tax to help pay for a longstanding land preservation program. Conservation Collier, the county's mechanism to buy environmentally sensitive lands, maintain and preserve them, is on the ballot as a countywide referendum. Read story »

AMENDMENTS

There will be six constitutional amendment proposals on the Nov. 3 ballot. To be adopted into the Florida Constitution, each proposal must receive at least 60% of the votes statewide. Learn about the amendments »
