Lely High School boys came out of the gates strong and never trailed, downing Cypress Lake 78-40 in the opening game of the 5A-District 12 tournament at the Lely gym.

The big win gets Lely ready for Wednesday’s match-up against Golden Gate, one of the strongest teams in the area.

“They are the most talented team in the county,” Jacques said of Golden Gate. “We’ve got to be ready to go.”

“Great team win. Defensively we played with a lot more effort,” Lely head coach Fritz Jacques said of the win over Cypress Lake.

Lik Eaten led Lely with 19 points. Goodland’s Zach Gober scored 15 for Lely in barely a half’s worth of play. Marco’s Dalton Herrity had eight.

Jacques was able to empty the bench in the second half. Eleven Trojans got in the scoring column.
