Senior softball results


With the season half over, the Marco Division's CJ's on the Bay moved into a tie for first place based a game winning streak, coupled with a four-game losing streak for Speakeasy. DaVinci's extended its lead in the Island Division to three games with a win over second place Porky's.

Island Division:

Feb 5:

DaVinci’s 14 Mutual of Omaha Bank 11

DaVinci’s had opened a 14-1 lead only to see the Bank rally. They would have tied the game if not for Murph Knapke robbing Ed Brack of a three rum homer with a catch if right field in the ninth inning ending the game. Jim Williams continued crashing the ball for DaVinci’s with four hits, Craig Cunningham and Grady Fuller had three. Bill Shurina had a bases load triple and four RBI, with Williams, Fuller, Bill Thompson, and Ron Hobson having two RBI. John Cavanagh and John DeRosa lined three hits for the Bank. Cavanagh chased home three runs, DeRosa, Herman Griffith, Ed Kingsbury and Art Sinisi two runs.

Nacho Mama’s 20 Sand Bar 12

Jon Wiseman, John Gross, Jack Martin, Jeff Hultgren, and Doug Stang tagged three hits each for Nacho’s, with John Stewart belting a homerun. Martin and Stang recorded four RBI, George Schnorr three; Wiseman, Stewart, Jim Blankenship two. Sand Bar’s Jim George drilled four hits, while Dave Banghart and Dan Dumbauld had three. Rick Benedetti whacked a triple giving him three RBI, with Ray Kane and Tom Bishard having two.

Porky’s 8 Brewery 7

In a tightly contested ball game Porky’s ended up winning in the bottom of the ninth when the winning run was walked home with the bases loaded, after having tied the game with three runs in the eighth. Porky’s Tom Pugh continued blistering the ball with three hits along with Jim Cuevas and Dan Moriarty. Cuevas racked up four RBI. Steve Hummel and Phil Holmes had three hits with Holmes clouting a triple giving him two RBI in the game for the Brewery.

Feb. 9:

DaVinci’s 13 Porky’s 8

Bill Wright, Jim Williams and Jim Vitas lashed three hits for DaVinci’s, while Craig Cunningham walloped a triple. Wright and Ron Hobson drove in three runs, Vitas and Grady Fuller two runs. Porky’s Jim Cuevas, Dan Moriarty, and Bob Grant peppered the ball for three hits, with John Ramage uncorking a two run homerun. Beside Ramage, Moriarty and Tom Tankersley who cracked a triple had two RBI.

Brewery 26 Mutual of Omaha Bank 11

The Brewery unleashed a thirty seven barrage on the Bank, with Steve Hummel spanking the ball for five hits while hitting for the cycle (a single, double, triple and a homerun). Team members Nick Jacullo, Jack O’Brien, Tom Whitlock, and Chuck Reich pounded out four hits; John Remhoff, Chris Flynn, and Phil Holmes three hits. Hummel chalked up five RBI, Jacullo, Holmes and Reich three; O’Brien, Whitlock, Mike Endelman and Bill Kayhart two. John Rysak had three hits for the Bank, with John Cavanagh chasing in three runs, Herman Griffith and Steve Clark two.

Sand Bar 25 Nacho Mama’s 9

Sand Bar ended it’s six game losing streak pummeling Nacho’s into mercy called game due to a difference of 15 runs or more after seven innings. Frank Benedetti lined four hits in the win while Dave Banghart, Ray Kane, Dan Dumbauld and Jim Green had three. One of Dumbauld’s hits was a two run homerun, with Kane, Green and Tom Bishard slamming a triple. Dumbauld and Frank Benedetti recorded four RBI, Banghart, Bishard, Kane, Green and John Sherwin. Jack Martin zinged the ball for three hits one a triple for Nacho’s giving him two RBI in the loss.

Feb. 6:

CJ’s on the Bay 15 Speakeasy 8

Paul Womack and Mike Galatis slashed three hits each for CJ’s; Pat Coraggio and Bob Grimm contributed two. Womack who clubbed a homerun had three RBI and Fran Roche two RBI in the win. Don Rooksberry laced three hits for Stonewalls; Mike Arnold, Randy Wesolowski, and Al Cenicola had two. Rooksberry and Cenicola mashed a triple, with Arnold and Wesolowski driving in two runs.

Mango’s 10 Rookies 8

Mango’s Warren Uhl, Jim Baumann, and Bob Beaver all had two hits, with Baumann having chased home three runs in the victory. Joe Callahan, Jerry Lenhoff, John Hollenbach, Dan O’Sullivan, Rich Larkin and Rich Chimera paced Rookies with two hits with Baumann and O’Sullivan having two RBI

Joey’s Pizza 14 Crazy Flamingo’s 9

Denny Davis riveted four hits, Bob Monaco three; Fred Kramer, Tom Loiacono, Fuzz Fazekas, and Rick Condle two for Joey’s. Monaco and Loiacono smacked a triple; with Kramer, Davis, Tony Brock, and Bill Kaschube having two RBI. Ray Niemeyer had a huge day for Flamingo’s using his infamous “SB” swing for three hits which included launching two homeruns, one a grand slam, giving him six RBI in the game. Teammates, Joe Furst, Dom Fiorda, and Bill Diamond had two hits, with Fiorda bashing a triple.

Feb. 3:

Mango’s 12 Stonewalls 3

Jim Battye, Joe Kruse, Jim White, Ed Dreyfus, and Fran Diotte laced two hits for Mango’s, with White crunching a triple. Kruse had three RBI and Diotte two in the win. John Luegering punched out three hits and Gary Schneider two for Stonewalls.

CJ’s on the Bay 13 Crazy Flamingo’s 5

CJ’s Roger Fleming and Fran Roche popped the ball for three hits each, with Don Schwartz, Mike Galatis and Bob Grimm picking up two hits. Fleming who smoked a two run opposite field homerun had three RBI, Schwartz, Pat Coraggio, and Paul Womack two. Joe Furst and Tom Grucci had two hits for Flamingo’s, with Grucci launching a two homerun.

Joey’s Pizza 20 Rookies 19

In a wild finish Joey’s held off a last inning rally by Rookies for the win. Up 20-12 Rookies score seven runs with the tying run being thrown out at home plate. Paul Burnett and Bob Monaco nailed four hits; Tom Loiacono, Denny Davis, and Tony Brock three, Fred Kramer and Leroy Fishleigh two for Joey’s. Monaco and Rick Condle hoisted a homerun, while Davis, Burnett, and Fishleigh had a triple. Monaco ended the game with five runs driven in, Davis four and Bill Kaschube two. Rookies Jerry Lenhoff’s bat was sizzling with five hits, John Hollerbach four, Steve Roberts three, while John Ranieri, John Gill, and Rich Larkin had two. Hollerbach clobbered a homerun and Lenhoff a triple. Larkin chased in four runs, Hollerbach three; Lenhoff, Joe Callahan, John Gill and John Hedges two.
