With around 30 players on this year’s roster, the Marco Island Academy Rays football team will do battle in new uniforms in an assortment of color combinations.

The uniforms, donated by the MIA Rays Touchdown Club, were unveiled in person recently at the school by six members of the team, Tyler Gresham, Bon Deese, Andrew Delgado, Kyle Ginther, Andrew Fowler and Patrick Michel.

While the players sported the four color combos, Touchdown Club members Michael Hook and Wayne Purvis, along with school officials Melissa Scott (principal), Kelly Monnot (new athletic director) and Jane Watt (board chair) sported broad smiles for the occasion.

On hand too, was Coach Greg Fowler, who said the team saw great improvements last year.

“We expect the program to make another big step this upcoming season,” Fowler said.

Watt praised the support from the booster club, which comprises members of the Marco community.

Unlike public schools, Purvis and Hook pointed out, equipment and support for charter school athletic programs has to be raised from private donations rather than public funds.

Anybody interested in membership should call Purvis at 389-1265, or Hook at 970-2420.
