The Marco Island Sail & Power Squadron (MISPS) is off to a very busy 2018. True to their primary mission to make boating safer through education, the club has produced a full schedule of courses and seminars.

While May is National Safe Boating Month, the Marco Island Sail and Power Squadron (MISP) believes every day of every month is Safe Boating Day. The organization offers a variety of educational classes to assist with boating safety.

Already underway is the America’s Boating Course which qualifies graduates for the Florida Safe.

Boating Certificate. The club is also conducting nine session courses in marine electrical systems, piloting and seamanship as well as two-hour seminars on anchoring, partner in command and charting/GPS.

The Power Squad's club’s annual fundraiser, the Wine and Hors d’oeuvres Party will be held at 5 p.m., Friday, Jan. 26, at San Marco Catholic Church Parish Hall.

Details can be found at marcoislandsailandpowersquadron.org.

The club’s annual fundraiser, the Wine and Hors d’oeuvres Party will be held at 5 p.m., Friday, Jan. 26, at San Marco Catholic Church Parish Hall. The event combines fun, food, wine and beer, raffles, silent auctions and 50/50 drawings and has been a crowd favorite for several years.

Highlights of this year’s silent auction include a collector edition, original Ferrari men’s watch, four clubhouse box seats plus free parking to a Miami Marlins regular season baseball game, a Penn rod and reel combo, a two-night stay at the JW Marriott (Marco Island), a three-month season membership to the Marco Island Yacht Club, a full mouth whitening program from local dentist, Dr. Schulze, Island Tower Dentistry, a Hinkley chandelier and four top-end Kilcher ceiling fans.

There will be about 30 raffle drawings along with the 50/50 drawing. There is a $250 door prize.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by contacting Tippy at 239-248-5815 or tippchgc@aol.com.

This is the club’s only fundraiser and the funds help to continue the club’s boating safety efforts through education and civic engagement.
